Lost My MusicPosted Wednesday, October 22, 2008, at 3:57 PM
If there has ever been a real constant in my life it's been music. Ever since I was a kid I've always loved singing to every song I knew loudly and probably off key. One instance of this that I remember is watching the Lion King with my dad. As most kids my age I had seen it more times than I could count (which at the time was probably to 20) and had the entire thing memorized. Anytime a song would start up I would sing along with it. Eventually it got too much for my dad that he finally had to tell me to stop singing or he was going to take out the video. Apparently my singing was just that bad. I then opted to keep my singing to my room or in the car.
This is how it remained until I got into middle school and thought that joining Band would be awesome. So that became my musical outlet. I stayed for all seven years of the program and mostly had a pretty good experience with it. For a little while in high school I also had a band going on. We played a few gigs before we decided to call it quits. Since then I've kinda stayed away from the whole hometown rock band sorta thing. Once was pretty much it for me. It's not that we weren't any good or anything. It had more to with the fact that you could probably make a few Lifetime movies from all of the drama that went on. Since high school I haven't had much of a musical outlet. I have Guitar Hero games at my house and I even bought a karaoke video game awhile ago. These don't really seem to help much since they are video games and not the real thing. However, the karaoke game isn't that far off since it registers pitch and (somewhat) the words that you are singing. I have found that my singing is way better than when I was a kid because I'm actually pretty good at that game. I'm not one to brag but I've only really found one person who can give me a run for my money on that game. I was looking into maybe joining a band here and there but ultimately was reminded of my terrible high school experience with it and decided it was better to stay away. However, I have been joking about starting a Japanese Pop Band here in America called "The Ultimate Fuzzy Whoo-Whoo Yeahs!" (believe me, for a Japanese band that name wouldn't be so weird). This has turned more into a fake marketing ploy between me and my friends. Instead of actually focusing on an actual band we've been more focused on the action figures and band merchandise we could create and sell. I'm sure it's just a fad between us and it will die out sometime in the next month or so, if it even lasts that long. So don't expect to see any of this any time soon. I'm sure though that once I'm finished with "The Ultimate Fuzzy Whoo-Whoo Yeahs!" fad I'll find something else because that's what I do. I keep picking up things that I can channel my love of music through until I can find something that will stick. Who knows, maybe I will make that J-Pop band and finally be able to say "I'm big in Japan". You never know. Comments Showing most recent comments first [Show in chronological order instead] |
