If I only had a brain...

"There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so." - William Shakespeare
Here at the Nevada Daily Mail, my co-worker Eric is always amazed at my "ability" to tune things out -- is both a curse and a gift. It is a curse because sometimes I miss out on important information; it's a gift because I don't have to listen to pointless (well, pointless to me anyway) jibber-jabber in my own world. I believe this is a genetic thing too, because apparently, according to Mom, my father has "selective hearing." Dad swears up and down that it's because my grandma Betty sang in his ear at church when he was little so he can't hear that well; any of you that know my grandma Betty and the way she used to sing, knows that that is a very, very good argument. Anyway, while I'm tuning out the real world, what I do to keep me entertained is think. I know, I know, that's gonna get me in trouble some day, but until that day comes, I'm gonna do it! I've figured out a lot of "life questions" while in my world. Like, the possible meaning to the song "Stairway to Heaven." ...Ok I'm not sure if that counts as a life question, but it was fun to conjure up. I also come up with really life scenarios that, if played out, would make my time on Earth complete. Here are some things that I've thought of throughout the years: 1. I believe that in the future food will not be in pill form, but in form of potato chips. If you think about it, there's like every flavor of potato chip. I recently had some onion blossom Pringles. And OMG! They actually tasted like onion blossom! Freaky! 2. Karma is a real thing. The whole "what goes around, comes around" saying, it's totally true. Someone once did me wrong in a big way, well guess what happened, their house got struck my lightening not to long after the event. If that's not karma I don't know what it is. But I know someone in charge isn't happy with them. 3. I was once driving home, and I was thinking about something crazy... It was something about how much of a coincidence it was that right before I drove past the Richland Cemetery, on the outskirts of Richards, that the song "Great Gig in the Sky" by Pink Floyd (Dark Side of the Moon) came on just then. Then I started thinking, "Man, I wish someone could write down all my thoughts, because that would be so much fun to read through." THEN, I thought, "Oh my gosh! God is totally up in heaven right now, writing down everything I'm thinking. So when I die, he's going to read everything back to me, and say 'Chass, you were one messed up individual.'" 4. If I had any super power in the world, it would be the power of flight. How sweet would that be to just have a pair of wings and just fly around! I sure as heck would be a little richer because I wouldn't have to spend my money on gas. AND I'd get exercise, so I'd be healthier. That's a big win-win situation if I do say so myself. 5. If my life could be any song in the world, it would have to be the song "Lookin' Out My Backdoor" by Credence Clearwater Revival. My reasoning behind this is because it would be so frickin' awesome to hangout with all those creatures! Who wouldn't wanna hangout with a "giant doing cartwheels," and I would be first in line to ride a flyin' spoon. So... none of these are life questions, but they're some thoughts I've had over the years. I know everyone who reads this probably thinks I need a one-way ticket to the nearest psych. ward, but I'm normal. I just have the imagination of a 6 year old. As long as I go about my adultly duties like I'm supposed to then I'm doing fine. |
