Music on the Home FrontPosted Friday, July 29, 2011, at 5:39 PM
As the music world for most musicians has its wicked way and the travesty comes to pass, most performing artists and bands eventually tour or travel to gig. It's an exciting time when a band gets to go on tour but sometimes it winds up becoming no fun if your band ends up stranded on the side of the road. My last weekend was spent on the road, and on the side while doing some traveling with the Marci Mitchell band. We traveled to Burke South Dakota to perform at the Burke Stamped. The annual rodeo and dance event is historically scheduled for the second or third week of July, and has close to seven hundred attendees and participants hailing from over seventeen states. Set out in the middle of a small cow town county the Burke Stampede is the premier event all year for the locals there. The event went great, but the trip home was a bust when the van broke down somewhere in Nebraska, and then was able to crawl on its last leg to get us to Alma Kansas where, after a few hours of being stranded, family members then rushed to the rescue and saved the day! It is always fun to "Road Trip" to an adventure, but these trying trips make me even more excited about our own hometown music scene that is right in our back yard where you don't have to travel much to get to the music and excitement!
This weekend on July 29, not only is the event that I spoke about last time going on at Aaron's featuring a live performance from the Curse of Shane Moses from 5 until 8 pm on the Austin Marketplace parking lot in front of thier store, but also a fundraiser at the Eagles with the Charlie Horse Band! The band features Joe Willis on bass guitar and vocals, Jason Richardson on Vocals and the "Magic" guitar, Doug Hudson on the steel guitar, and Rick Bevenue on the drums. It will be a great night of good old country music that you can dance to with a fun bunch of musicians!
In closing today I would like to remind everyone to make sure and tip the wait staff, never hesitate to pay the cover charge, and don't forget the free musicians swap meet at Butler Music on July 30, from 10am till 6pm. Coming up in August Stir Crazy will be performing at the American Legion in Nevada on August 6, and it will be Acoustic in August at the Armadillo Sound Studio.
