Two Venues Close, But the Music Heats Up! Big TimePosted Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at 10:03 PM
Venue? Well in the performing world that simply means a place that hosts entertainment. Sadly two doors closed last month, Vikings, and Armadillo Sound Studio. This month one venue steps it up to pick up the slack, and readys its self for serious entertainment all sumer long! That venue... the Take a Break Java Den located at 123 E. Cherry Street in Nevada, Missouri. Sure there are still other places to see live music in town, but Java Den plans on bringing it to Nevada, Missouri, with FREE admission, weekly! Sounds like a deal right, so what is the catch? All the venue asks of the folks that show up is to simply buy a drink or snack while your there to help cover the cost of making it happened, and being able to stay open late. This is the first time I have seen a place featuring live music weekly, and open late nightly (with the exception of Sundays they are closed) to do something like this for AS LONG AS I HAVE BEEN ALIVE!!!! There have been places open late once or twice a week later, but to have three nights of entertainment per week, never. This is a real feet to acomplish in Nevada, Missouri due to the lack of participation for musical events in town. Folks really like the idea of them but don't always show up to support the event its self, and that can hurt the continuation of live music, i.e. see the list of businesses that have tried it but eventually closed down for one reason or annother, or quit having music cause the cost out weighed the reward. Anyways, enough talk and on to the excitement downtown Nevada, Missouri.
Casual Acoustic Night is held each Thursday, Indie Movie Night on Fridays, and other Special Live nights at the Java Den from 7 until 9pm (with the shop open until 10pm) featuring area performers of all music types, and the indiependant films made by the hardest working filmakers out there. The list of upcoming performers, films, and events is as diverse as it is long:
Taco Tuesday May 29 - Neon Moon Duo (Country & Rock n' Roll)
Casual Acoustic Night Thursday May 31 - Cody Modlin (Country & Rock)
Indie Movie Night Friday June 1 - What is Indie? (Documentary)
Saturday Special Live June 9 - Brice Leonard (Modern Rock)

Another great weekely event downtown showcasing live music for FREE, that you should take advantage of, is the "Monday Music on the Square"! Monday Music has been proudly hosted by the Nevada Chamber of Commerce and been an awesome event with a great turn out of support! The event is held on the south side of the courthouse lawn each Monday night from 6 until 8 PM. There is a unique performer each week with several good ones lined up to perform, including Matthew Harper set to perform on June 4, 2012. Watch the newspaper for other details, and performers as they unfold for the other upcomming weeks!
Thats all for now, I'll see you at the show!
