When my daughter was a small child and blustery days like today would come, she'd stand at the door, looking out at the blowing trees and the leaves and things blowing by, and she'd tell us "It's windin'"

Today, the wind's intense, gusting between 25 and 40 mph, with some gusts possible of up to 50 mph. That's enough to complicate travel, especially in high profile vehicles, so please drive carefully. In town, it could blow items into the street, and there could be a person, young or old, chasing after that item that doesn't see a car, so it's a good idea to be extra careful today.

And any sort of spark or fire on a day like today -- one with dry air, strong, gusting wind, dry leaves and grass to burn -- could rage out of control. The weather service says these conditions "create explosive fire growth potential."
