A year later, Joplin's recovery continues.Posted Monday, May 21, 2012, at 9:39 PM
It's been one year since an EF5 tornado tore through the middle of Joplin, leaving death and devastation in its wake.
Now, a year later, the city still bears many of the battle scars of that day. On Friday, Tom, Tony and I went to Joplin where the Shell Rotella Superrigs truck show was going on. Proceeds helped support the All Roads Lead to Joplin rebuilding project, and the drive down 32nd Street in Joplin, past desolate lots that still contained a little debris was an experience that brought home the extent of recovery still to come. We ran into a family from Nevada with their truck on display -- we'll tell you about that, later. But the people and the community are coming back, and the support the community's received is heartwarming. Tonight President Barack Obama planned to address graduates in Joplin and out of the devastation a new year is born. Joplin's come a long way, but there's a long way yet to go. |
Exploring the obvious and the not so obvious in search of the oh, so elusive "something to do' that's all around us.
