Getting from A to B
Posted Monday, March 24, at 11:22 AM
I am not frequently (or ever) a person in need of public transportation. However, I've noticed that there are many people in this town who are. Many other people depend on their scooter-chairs to commute across town daily. That may not be the best way to get around town but it's better than your two feet if you're disabled.
I've been fortunate enough to have my own car and be able to drive it for most days of the past few years. I never realized how much tougher life can be without that luxury. It's not something you're likely to think about unless it happens to be you. But now that I AM thinking about it I wonder, am I crazy or is the "public transportation" in this town a sick joke? Who can afford to pay $6 ONE way? That means if I can't walk to the grocery store to get some medicine or some necessity and I pay the taxi to take me there and back, I'm out $12 plus what I've spent at the store. That seems outrageous in this little town. I used to pay $1 to get a taxi all the way across Pittsburg, Kansas when I missed the school bus in high school (before I got my car!). And correct me if I'm wrong, but there's only one cab service here. Can you say monopoly? I'd say they're making a lot of money at those prices, but like I said who can afford to use it regularly? Many of the people who need the cab service wouldn't if they could buy a car or even a scooter chair! I just read in the local newspaper that M-NOD will now take over the city's taxi coupon program and handicapped accessible vans. I also read that though On My Own had expressed wishes to bid on operating the service, they weren't asked. They were disappointed and so was I. It would be nice to see what another company might do with the service.
Daughter of the Band I've never heard any discussion on the topic, but as the daughter of a "band man" I often wonder about what my rights are as "daughter of the band". My father was a drummer for the family band at the young age of ten. He's been in a band ever since. I've been a member of the crowd, and on occasion, a sort of roadie...
Farewell, So Long I went home on my lunch break on a Friday and realized just how much my life had changed in the last week. It does that from time to time. Just when things seem like they've gone on too long the same way, everything up and moves. My fiancé was usually home with our two kids every day. ...
One Stop Shopping This is in part in response to The Fort Scott Tribune blogger, Michael Glover (My Two Cents), who wrote about the inconvenience of the ever-convenient Wal-Mart. It struck a cord with me and I decided I should post my own blog. I try to stretch every dollar and in the past this has meant heading to Wal-Mart for EVERYTHING. However, I have had SO many bad experiences there, I now try to only shop there for canned goods and diapers since I can't find them for less anywhere else...
Training Day I have two boys, one (Jo Jo) 25 months, the other 8 months (Ethan). When my second son was born my family threw a diaper shower. I have been drowning in diapers ever since. I have nightmares about them... when I'm awake. We have been desperate for Jo Jo to start using the toilet. We've begged him, ordered him, still nothing. Not a trickle...
Don't Get Burned There are a few things that truly concern me in this world, one of them being the environment and in a subcategory thereof, its affect on people. Understand, I am a person of relatively light complexion, I have never had a real tan. As a teenager, I was always the victim of ridicule. ...
