Missing Webb City

Last Friday night I watched what may be the last football game that Nevada will ever play against Webb City. I know Nevada lost the game, just like they did the previous 24 times they played, but I will miss those annual contests.
I may be the only one here that will. I know a lot people who won't miss those games at all and I'm sure most of Nevada's football players are among them. I know of some people who say that they hate Webb City. And I know that sometimes strange things happen when we play in Webb City; I've seen them. But even with all that, there is something about the rivalry between Nevada and Webb City that always seemed to bring out the best in Nevada's team, making this perhaps the best game that Nevada would play all year. While some Webb City players and fans don't take Nevada seriously, I'm sure their coach does, even if he doesn't think that Nevada will beat them. More than once Nevada has been the first team of the season to score on Webb City and their fans still say it was a down year for Webb City when Nevada took them to four overtimes in the district championship game, before losing. Had a Webb City player been called for being off-sides, when he ran through both teams lines before the ball was snapped, the outcome of that game may well have been different. Of course it's possible that we may still face Webb City in the future. If the school district has to ask MSHSAA to put Nevada in a conference we could end up in the Central Ozark Conference, albeit in the small school division, and perhaps play them again. In the worst case we could be bumped back into the world of Class 4 football schools next year and end up in the same district with Webb City. And if we play in a district to the north, we could have to face Harrisonville, which is not much better. Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

That is definaly a sad loss. I remember they are one of the reason I was so competitive in middle school/high school track. It almost makes me feel bad for the future students.
