Supporting our troops

Posted Friday, August 3, 2007, at 3:09 PM

I've been a little remiss in posting to the blog but I have a good reason. I had to wait for my blood pressure to come down far enough for me to compose a post that wouldn't get me fired for using inappropriate language. Last week I was online checking out what was happening in the larger world of Al Gore's Internet when I checked into a blog by Rachel Lucas. She wrote about one of the most despicable aspects of You Tube, a site users can upload videos on.

Jihadists are using the site to disseminate their vile propaganda. Not just some rambling rant, these videos show our troops in Iraq being attacked, harmed and killed by IEDs and other ambushes. Graphic, raw footage with music dubbed in the background.

Keep in mind that You Tube has no trouble yanking videos of people like conservative commentator Michelle Malkin. This comes as no surprise, You Tube is owned by Google, the Internet giant that caved like an igloo in July to China's demands to censor content, allows ads that sell shirts that suggest George Bush be assasinated but can't allow conservatives to have an ad on their site.

Thanks to Rachel Lucas and others ordinary people are fighting back against this

Operation You Tube Smackdown has a project to fight this filthy propaganda. Located at http://muninn-quotheraven.blogspot.com/2... the project point visitors to jihadist videos that they have found that violate You Tubes rules. They ask that you view the video and if you agree with them that it deserves to be removed they ask that you flag it as offensive. Just follow their instructions and you too can support our troops.

It isn't hard to do and you can spend as much or as little time as you wish on the project. Every time a video is flagged it means that it is that much closer to being pulled.

Liberals are always saying they support our troops but don't support the war. This is a way for them to demonstrate their commitment. Conservatives can likewise support this without being accused of being a chickenhawk.

Liberals have complained that this war demands no sacrifices of ordinary Americans as World War II did. There are no scrap drives to provide material for the defense industry. No war bond drives. No shared sacrifice.

Well then, sacrifice some time. Log on and see for yourself what these videos are about. And when you do, act.

This is something no American can object to. There are no questions about rights violations or any other issue to cloud this. Posting graphic violence on You Tube that glorifies killing is unacceptable. It violates the rules of the site and rules of civilized behavior.

I know what I'm going to be doing online this weekend and it won't be listening to the dancing hamsters song or playing whack-a-mole with little Elmo. I'll be doing something to support the troops that help keep me safe. It's little enough and I'm happy to do it. I hope you will too.
