Pour l'encouragement d'les autres

One of the mantras the left is fond of spouting is that they support the troops, just not what the troops are doing in Iraq. Actions in Berkley put the lie to that statement. The Berkley city council recently insulted the United States Marines, individually and as a group. They told the Marines they were unwelcome in Berkley and that if they stayed they did so as uninvited and unwelcome intruders.

If this is their idea of supporting the troops but protesting the war they are not doing a very good job of either. If their idea is to support the troops you are failing miserably. If they want to support the troops they could have a program to help service families get a little extra help with child-care. They could start a grief counseling program for those who have lost a family member in the fighting. These, and other programs like them, are the kinds of things that support the troops but do not lend themselves to suggesting support for the war.

They are humanitarian actions that would show the world that Berkley residents care about other human beings, even while objecting to what those humans are up to. But no, the Berkley berserkers decided to spit in the face of decent people and pass a resolution condemning Marine recruiters.

If you want to protest the war you could do better than giving Code Pink a parking space once a week. That's just lame guys. I support the war (actually there's more to it than that but that's for another blog entry,) but I could come up with a better, more effective way to protest than that. I thought you lefty, commie-pinko symps were supposed to be creative, apparently that's just propaganda.

Here comes the part that always amazes me; the inability of those on the left to recognize their blazing hypocrisy. Yes, you have the first amendment right to say any foolish thing that comes into your brain. Follow me closely: I have the same right.

Once you have made your statement I can come out against it. I am not infringing any of your rights by exercising mine. Criticism is not censoring what you say, it is in counter-point to it.

I can even take action based on what you have said without censoring you. If I were to choose not to buy a product made by a company in Berkley based on the actions of the city council that is my right. They might not like it but that is too bad, actions have consequences.

At least the left's lies are coming out into the open now. Here we have an example of them outsmarting themselves and I'm enjoying it. No longer can they spout nonsense about how they support the troops but not the mission. From now on I'm simply going to say, you say you support the troops but not the mission; show me your support for the troops, this is Missouri after all and around here we're known for demanding proof.

As for Berkley, lets take all that nasty national money out of there. We don't want to pollute their economy with the same nasty money that is used to support the troops. And there is a bigger reason, the French have a phrase: Pour l'encouragement d'les autres, for the encouragement of the others. Let's encourage the other cities around the country to think long and hard about putting their unAmerican proclivities on display, it might just cost them.

For those who complain that that's wrong I remind you that cities aren't people and don't have the same free speech rights as a human being. If a city wants to 'spit in the face' of the national government the national government has the right to pull every last dollar out of there.
