Tuesday, July 1, 2003

The Nevada City Council plans to discuss issues relating to the county's proposal for a sales tax funding a new jail during a regular meeting set for 7 o'clock tonight in council chambers in the public safety building at Ash and Austin. The county is planning three public forums to provide citizens with information about the jail and the related tax issue on the Aug. 5 ballot. According to a letter from county commissioners to the Nevada City Council, the forums will be at 7 p.m., July 22, at the elementary school in Schell City; 7 p.m., July 24, at Sheldon High School; and at 7 p.m., July 31, at Centennial Park Fairgrounds in Nevada. Prior to the regular meeting, the city council plans to conduct a closed session relating to a proposed amendment to a purchase and sale agreement between the city and Cypress Grove Apartments and will be closed to the public. During the regular meeting, the city council plans to act on the amendment. The proposed amendment can be viewed on the city's Web site, www.nevadamo.org. The council also plans to decide whether Will Messer and and Joanne Fisk, candidates seeking reappointment to seats on the park board, will remain in office. If reappointed, the board members' three year terms would expire in June 2006.
