Neptunes net championships, awards

Three Nevada Neptune Swim Club members reached the finals of the Tri-State Championships in early August. Swimmers from Arkansas, Kansas and Missouri competed in the two-day event held at Pittsburg, Kan. Kristen Badgley, winner of the High Point Award for 13-14-year-old girls at the championships, scored firsts in the 50-yard backstroke, 50 butterfly and the 100 freestyle. She also captured seconds in the 50 freestyle, 200 intermediate medley and a sixth place in the 50 breaststroke. Eight-year-olds Lucas Denman and Morgan Hold were the other Nevada medalists. Denman placed third in the 50 freestyle and fourth in the 25 freestyle, while Hold took fourth in the 25 backstroke and fifth in the 25 freestyle. On August 17, Neptune swimmers were feted at a season-ending awards picnic. The following swimmers were presented with team awards: n Mollie Currid -- High Point (6-and-under girls). n Andrew Messick -- High Point (6-and-under boys). n Kaitlyn Cable -- High Point (8-and-under girls). n Lucas Denman -- High Point (8-and-under boys). n Katie Kearbey -- High Point (10-and-under girls). n Annie Currid -- High Point (11-12 girls). n Kristen Badgley -- High Point (13-14 girls). n Justin Nash -- High Point (13-14 boys). n Brittany Braucher -- High Point (15-18 girls). n Mason Benn -- High Point (15-18 boys). n Katie Currid -- Neptune Award. n Morgan Hold -- Neptune Award. n Connor Morrison -- Neptune Award. n Rachel Savage -- Most Improved Girl. n Nicholas Conner -- Most Improved Boy.
