Wednesday, July 2, 2003

Lots of action resulted in excellent racing and new Feature winners in the Late Model, Street Stock and Mini-Stock Divisions. Points leaders remain the same in all but one division. Jack Simmons is back in the lead in the Late Model Division. Nevada Speedway's Fourth of July Special will have a 40 lap Feature in the Late Model Division with a $1,000 purse for the winner. They will all be competing hard for this extra money. LATE MODEL Heat race winners were Jack Simmons, Erie, Kan. and Bill Humble, Jr, Rich Hill. Humble got the lead at the start of the Feature. Ron McCulley spun bringing out the yellow flag and closing the field behind Humble for the restart. Humble built up a good lead, which was erased as Donnie Timmerman spun. This placed Humble in the lead for the restart with Simmons right on his bumper. Humble was able to maintain the lead and claim his first win of the season. MODIFIED Heat race winners were Ron Bolin, Jr, Fort Scott, Kan. and Paul Taylor, Nevada. Steven Weddle got the lead at the start of the Feature and held it until he went high in the corner allowing Chuck McCartney to gain the lead. In a chain reaction slow down Trey Todd and Brantlee Gotschall got turned around and tangled bringing out the yellow flag and closing the field behind McCartney for the restart. Kevin Morrow had just taken the lead when Weddle spin bringing out the yellow flag and closing the field behind McCartney for the restart. On the restart Morrow again gained the lead and left the field behind as he claimed the win, his fifth of the season. STREET STOCK Heat race winners were Denny Chrisenbery, Bronaugh and Sam Shadden, Fulton, Kan.. Shadden got the lead at the start of the Feature. Craig Spencer got a bump sending him spinning which brought out the yellow flag and closed the field behind Shadden for the restart. David Bough jumped into the lead on the restart. Gerrod Vickers and Jerry Morgan got together resulting in both spinning and another yellow flag. This closed the field behind Bough for the restart. Bough held the lead through several more yellow flags until Chris Rodabaugh was able to take the position. Rodabaugh was able to maintain the lead through the balance of the race to claim his first win of the season. MINI-STOCK Heat race winners were Delbert Agee, Jr., Bronaugh and Michael Rayburn, Liberal. Mark Godsey got the lead at the start of the Feature. Agee had just claimed the lead when the yellow flew as Joe Charles went into the wall and Bruce Short went spinning as Matt Rose tried to go between then. This brought out the yellow flag and placed Godsey back in the lead for the restart. Agee again claimed the lead on the restart and held it until Godsey spun with just one lap to go. This brought out the yellow flag, erasing a big lead, and closed the field behind Agee for the restart. He was able to maintain the lead and claim his first win of the season.
