Tigers, Lady Tigers advance to state meet

OZARK, Mo. -- Three Nevada High School track athletes claimed victories at the Sectional 3 track and field meet at Ozark High School on Saturday. Tiger junior distance runner Jon Emery edged Rogersville's Rees Cowherd by a mere .04 seconds to capture the 800-meter run. Senior Luke Clark won the discus with a throw of 146 feet and senior Traci Werner took the shot put in the women's division with a toss of 40 feet-1 inch. Other Tiger qualifiers -- top four in sectionals advance -- to the state meet in Columbia, Mo., on Friday and Saturday include four relay teams, the men's 400, 800 and 1600 and the women's 400, senior shot putter Chris Carsten and junior pole vaulter Brent Chapman. "The kids are doing a great job," said Nevada coach Robert Watts. "I'm really proud of them. They've had faith in me all year long and now everything's coming together."
