100 Years Ago -- August 3, 1903 Lawn Committee chosen to award to award the A.B. Cockerill lawn prize spent the morning driving all over the city and at noon drafted the following report: After a careful examination of the Nevada lawns, we have awarded the first prize of $50 to Mrs. A.B. Cockerill, the second $30 to Mrs. E.F. Meyers and the third of $20 to Mrs. T.C. Caldwell. The large number of handsome lawns and the minutely careful attention given many of them pleasantly surprised the committee. O.W. Neff, E.E. Bean and R.W. Mitchell, Committee.

75 Years Ago -- August 3, 1928 GREEN SPRINGS -- Ben Stout is hauling lumber from the Hess Saw Mill to replace the barn recently destroyed by fire caused by lighting. Jas. Pryour's sister and children motored here from Oklahoma last week and visited a few days. Henry Culbertson hauled a truckload of hogs to El Dorado Monday. Rev. and Mrs. Andrew Blue and the formers mother, Mrs. Kilon, motored here from Kansas City Saturday to visit friends. The Community Club met with Mrs. S.H. Plumer Thursday. 50 Years Ago -- August 3, 1953

DURHAM -- Mrs. Jim Wilhoite and Miss Clare Miller dressed fifty frying chickens Monday which she stored in her home freezer. Rex Kimrey is pasturing some cattle at the John Burch farm. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Rowland and Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Roland attended a family reunion held Sunday at El Dorado Springs. There were 25 persons there for the basket dinner. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Compton and son were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Ray. Loren Rinehart and Miss Shirley Still of Lamar, were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Rinehart. NEWS FROM KANSAS CITY -- Kansas City's third television station went on the air yesterday. Jointly operated by KMBC-TV and WHB-TV, that station began operations on VHF channel 9 with programs from the Columbia Broadcasting System Network. Officials said calls from viewers within a 100-mile radius indicated good reception except in cases where receivers need some adjustments. WDAF-TV, Kansas City Star's station, has been on the air since September 1949.
