100 Years Ago -- July 27, 1903

ITEMS -- Postmaster McAnulty has received the metal cases for the reception of the weather reports and which were placed in position today at points where mailboxes were stationed. They are government property and are not to be tampered with or destroyed. The Gun Club will hold their regular weekly shoot tomorrow. Beginners will be allowed to shoot from a distance of one yard of trap. D.R. Elliott of Kansas City, one of the most expert bigshots of the country, will meet with the club either tomorrow or the following Tuesday. The Provident Association has sent Mrs. William Wortz and baby to relatives at Mena, Texas. This is the young wife who was deserted by her worthless husband last week and sent to jail.

75 Years Ago -- July 27, 1928

GLENWOOD- Mr. Cantrall of Kansas City was called home by his wife's illness last week. She is not much improved at this writing. Henry Walker is delivering O.C. Null's wheat to Nevada and Mr. Fleener delivered wheat for Ellis Harrison. The farmers here are selling some milk and expect to sell more. Three milk trucks are coming by now.

50 Years Ago -- July 27, 1953 COMPROMISE ARMISTICE ENDS BLOODY 3 YEAR WAR IN KOREA -- Local folks greet news of armistice with plenty of salt and little emotion. Nevadans and visitors in Nevada this morning had little inclination to celebrate. Following are comments of those interviewed by The Daily Mail this morning: Joe Holder, manager of Edmiston's Store, "I think it is pretty nice to have it over with and I hope it is genuine. I hope for the best." Pierre Weltmer, Graphic Arts Studio, "I don't trust the whole thing any farther than I could throw Hotel Mitchell." Miss Patsy Jones, receptionist for Dr. Robert Triplett and Dr. R.C. Morris, "I don't think the fighting will stop but it does sound encouraging." BRONAUGH NEWS -- Albert Kulman and son George, of the Moore neighborhood have been threshing oats in this neighborhood this past week. Jimmie Palmer, pastor of the Baptist Church, is working at the A. and P. Store in Nevada. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Townsend, the new superintendent of School District R-7, moved into the C.A. Thompson property last week.
