DECORATION DAY SERVICES -- Today being Decoration Day, elaborate arrangements were made for the appropriate celebration and garlanding of the graves of the deceased veterans of the Civil War but the inclement weather greatly interfered and the program arrangement was only partially carried out. Many of the merchants decorated their stores with flags hung at half-mast and the banks were all closed. Many of our people prepared beautiful bunches of flowers to be strewn upon the graves of the veterans at Deepwood but the weather interfered with this beautiful ceremony. The Grand Army of the Republic services were to have been held at Deepwood but on account of the rain, the services were held at the G.A.R. Post in the Duck Block.
