Hume, NEVC set to rumble after first-round district wins

RICH HILL, Mo. -- Familiar foes Hume and Northeast Vernon County advanced to the semifinal round of the Class 1, District 10 volleyball tournament at Rich Hill on Monday. Sixth-seeded Hume eliminated No. 3 Ballard, while No. 7 NEVC toppled No. 2 Archie. The two Vernon County Conference rivals meet at 6:45 today. The Hornets, VCC regular season and tournament champions, defeated Ballard, 2-1, by scores of 25-11, 24-26 and 25-19. "My girls were on fire," said Hume coach Amy Patterson. "They looked good and played good." Kayla O'Rear led the Hornets with 16 service points, followed by Kayla Morrison with 15, Janine Castillo with 14 and Nicole Hinton with 13. Cindy Murdock, Katie Sneed and Morrison topped the blocks stat with six apiece. Hinton and O'Rear had five and Castillo four. Castillo had four kills to lead that category.
