The Nevada Tiger volleyball team broke a six-game skid with a sweep of Butler at Wynn Gymnasium on Monday. Nevada defeated the Bears 25-19, 25-12 in the non-conference match to improve to 8-14-2, 3-4 in the Southwest Conference. Ashley Beckett paced the Tiger scoring with 15 service points, while Hillary Adams added 13. Wendi Jones led the kill stat with three. Beckett, Lacy Leonard, Veronica Mosier and Kelsey Erwin had two kills each. Tigers' Erwin, Chanda Conner, Courtney Selsor, Andi Rowland and Jenny McCullough were recognized at Senior Night. On Saturday, the Tigers went 0-3 in the Harrisonville Tournament. Nevada lost to eventual tournament champion Holden 25-9, 25-10; fourth-place finisher Raytown South 25-17, 25-19 and district rival Harrisonville 25-11, 25-10. "Overall, the tournament was a little disappointing," said Nevada coach Sharla Wilkerson. "We have had some problems this past week and it showed. I hope we can pull it together for the remainder of our season." A major blow has been the loss through injury of Jenny McCullough, a Tiger veteran and mainstay. The Nevada junior varsity (6-18-1) lost in two games to Butler, 25-21 and 25-14. Andrea Ast and Jennifer Neal led with seven and six points, respectively. Desiree Stacy topped the JV Tigers in kills with four. The Tigers travel to Neosho for a conference match today.
