Renaissance rewards students with meal
Students at Nevada High School got a treat for good behavior this week. Jesse and Lorena Ornelas, owners of Casa Azteca, treated gold level Renaissance students to a free meal at their restaurant, Seniors ate free Tuesday, juniors and freshmen ate free on Wednesday and sophomores ate free on Thursday. 152 students qualified and 125 took advantage of the free meal this year,out of a student body of 830.
Twenty-one faculty members also qualified.
Ornelas spoke to the students after the meal saying that the benefits of their work went far beyond the free meal they ate. He encouraged the students to continue their efforts and they would see just how many benefits there were.
After the meal students went to the Nevada/Vernon County Community Center in Nevada, where students could engage in pool, pingpong, and basketball.
Some students went to the Nevada Public Library where they read books or used the computers during their free time.
Students must maintain a 3.67 grade point average and 95 percent attendance to be eligible for gold level rewards.
