Members of the Education Committee of the Nevada/Vernon County Chamber of Commerce have organized efforts to host a full day seminar at the 3M Clubhouse next Wednesday, Feb. 11. The workshop will be attended by current members of the senior classes from Bronaugh, Northeast Vernon County, Sheldon R-8, and Nevada R-5 Schools. Students who attend are eligible for a Community Pride Scholarship. Four scholarships, each in the amount of $250, were awarded to local students last year. Area sponsors contributing to the success of this year's event include members of numerous civic organizations.

Ethical Decision Making in the Workplace and Society is full day program designed to help high school seniors understand values and ethics, how they are acquired, and how they are applied in the workplace.

Sponsored by the Education Committee of the Nevada/Vernon County Chamber of Commerce and facilitated by the Missouri State Chamber of Commerce, the program will divide over 200 area seniors into small groups, based on their career choice.

A community leader will serve as a resource person to help each small group apply values and ethics to real-world situations. Participants will learn personal and group decision-making skills, using an ethical code based on the community's values.

This year's facilitator will be David Lankford, Vice President of Education of the Missouri Chamber of Commerce.

He has a degree in history and education from Rockhurst College and a master's degree in education from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Before joining the Missouri Chamber, Lankford taught social studies and marketing in the Mexico, Mo., public schools.

In seven years of teaching, he also coached basketball, track and tennis.

In Mexico, he served four years on the city council and two terms as mayor.

He was named one of the "Ten Outstanding Young Missourians" by the Missouri Jaycees, as well as "Outstanding Young Men in America" by the National Jaycees.

Since moving to Jefferson City, he has served as chairman of the Jefferson City Planning and Zoning Commission, chairman of the State Advisory Council for Community Education and treasurer for the Missouri Right to Life. He is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of the Missouri Council for Economic Education.

As a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, he is an extra-ordinary minister, high school minister and confirmation director.

Lankford has also served as the chairman of the Stewardship program, a member of the School Board and President of the Home and School Association.

Mr. Lankford is a 1996 graduate of Leadership Missouri, enjoys cycling and golf and is an amateur photographer.

He is married and has three grown children and two grandchildren.
