Gertrude C. Morrison

Gertrude C. Morrison, 92, Nevada, Mo., died Monday, Feb. 23, 2004, at Christian Health Care, Nevada, following a short illness. She was born Oct. 30, 1911, in Stockton, Mo., to William H. Collins and Flora Bidler Collins.

Morrison grew up and graduated from high school in Stockton, Mo. She received her teacher's certificate from Southwest Missouri State College. She lived and worked in Fort Scott, Kan., for more than 20 years. Gertrude came to Nevada from Lockwood in 1978, and has lived in Nevada ever since. She was a former member of the Church of God in Fort Scott and a current member of the First Baptist Church in Nevada. She also belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star of Fort Scott, and the Business and Professional Women in Nevada.

Survivors include three daughters, Virginia Newman, Wichita, Kan., Pat Morrison, Oronogo, Mo., and Beverly Zemlock, Independence, Kan.; 19 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, Feb. 27, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, Mo., with Dr. William Cox and Pastor Larry Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park, Nevada.

Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends 6 to 7 p.m., on Thursday at the funeral home.
