100 Years Ago - March 12, 1904

The Knights of Columbus will initiate the Nevada Council Sunday and a large number of visitors from St. Louis, Kansas City, Parsons and intermediate points will be here. The Knights will arrive on a special train consisting of a baggage car and two coachers from Kansas City.

The special will return to Kansas City Monday leaving Nevada about 10 am. An extra sleeper for the accommodations of members of the order will also be attached to the Sunday morning train. Those Knights arriving on the morning train will attend High Mass at St. Mary's Catholic Church in a body.

The ritual work of the order will be conducted at Odd Fellows Hall in Duck Block, after which the ladies of St. Mary's Parish will serve a sumptuous banquet at the Eagles Hall to the visitors.

75 Years Ago- March 12, 1929

SPORTS -- From Ocean Speedway, Dayton Beach, Florida ... In a flaming streak of super speed, Major H.O.D. Segrave, famous British race track driver, yesterday set a new world's speed record for automobiles by sending his powerful Golden Arrow machine roaring over the hard wave-lapped ocean speedway here at the tremendous speed of 231.35246 m.p.h.

50 Years Ago - March 12, 1954

SCHOOL NEWS --Approximately 1,500 students converged on Nevada bright and early this morning to pit their wits and talents against each other in the 27th Annual Spring Festival being held at the Nevada High School today and Saturday. The youngsters are participating in events ranging from vocal and instrumental solos to speech, one act plays and commercial events such as typing and shorthand.

Droves of the boys and girls were scooting about the business district going in and out of stores and restaurants purchasing knickknacks and sipping sodas or soft drinks.
