Althea Jane Humphrey

Althea Jane Humphrey, 101, Nevada, Mo., formerly of Sheldon, passed away Saturday, March 20, 2004, at Moore-Few Care Center following a short illness. She was born March 2, 1903, in Sheldon, Mo., to Edward G. Fowler and Matilda Jane Beisley Fowler. She married Albert Humphrey on Sept. 21, 1924, in Nevada and he preceded her in death in 1973.

Mrs. Humphrey was born and raised in Sheldon and also attended school there. She was a member of the Sheldon Christian Church. She and her husband farmed east of Sheldon for 30 years. Following their retirement from the farm, they came to Nevada in 1958 where they both worked at Nevada State Hospital until retirement.

She is survived by one daughter, Alberta Jane Peters, Houston, Texas; five grandchildren, David E. Peters, Pasadena, Texas, Stephen D. Peters, Bacliff, Texas, Lani G. Peters and Barbara R. Moccabee, both of Houston, Texas, and Kim D. Starlin, Sheldon, Mo.; 15 great-grandchildren and 32 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Floyd Fowler and his wife Mildred, and Beverly Fowler, all of Sheldon, Mo.; sister-in-law, Kay Fowler, Medford, Ore.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by six sisters, four brothers, and one son-in-law, Delmar Peters.

Funeral services will be held at the Sheldon Christian Church in Sheldon on Friday, March, 26, 2004, at 2 p.m., with Pastor Kevin Paszalek officiating. Interment will follow in Sheldon Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday morning until noon on Friday at Beeny-Ferry Funeral Home. The family receives friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m., at the funeral home.
