The Nevada Tigers baseball team got the 2004 season off to a rousing start by winning their first two games in the Bolivar Tournament.

Monday afternoon the Tigers, who finished last season with a 13-13 record and the district championship, defeated the Bolivar Liberators in first round play.

Senior pitcher Luke Stahl struck out the first eight batters faced and struck out a total of 12 batters in five innings and gave up two hits to pick up his first win of the season.

Stahl, Justin Reed and David Hawks picked up three hits each.

"Luke threw a great game," Tyson Beshore, Nevada High School head baseball coach said.

On Tuesday the Tigers beat the Clinton Cardinals in a close 3-2 game in the second round of the Bolivar Tournament.

Nevada pitcher Andrew Kennon threw for six innings and Anthony Miller came in for the seventh, giving up a combined total of eight hits.

"Andrew threw for six good innings and Anthony came in and closed the door. Another solid defensive effort," Beshore said.

Luke Stahl, Kevin Post and Tad Johnston paced us on offense, he said.

Today the Tigers will take on Lamar at 6:30 p.m. in round three of the Bolivar tournament.
