The first Mom's Club was started in 1983 by Mary James in California, who wanted to meet with other moms and let her children meet with other children. When she discovered there were no clubs for moms and children together, she started one. There are now 1,500 chapters in the USA with more than 75,000 members. There are also new clubs forming in other countries.

The Nevada Mom's Club has been organized for seven years with Mary Mitchell as the local founder.

For the last four years, as part of their annual service project, the Nevada Mom's Club has provided a tent at the Bushwhacker Days Celebration to offer help to mothers and children while at the event.

Michelle Sears is the current president of the local chapter of Mom's Club International.

"We have a tent with a chair to sit on and sheets up to form a screen so moms can breast feed with some privacy," said Sears.

"We also have a diaper changing table so you don't have to put the baby on the ground or a bench to change their diaper," Sears continued. "Usually we have diapers and wipes donated by local businesses. This year we were a little late getting organized but we will have diapers and wipes furnished by our members. The variety of sizes may be limited though. We also provide some germicide hand lotion for the mom's to use." Sears added, "We are always open to new members. People can call me for more information at 667-0185."

The Mom's Club meets at 10:45 a.m., the first Tuesday of each month at the First Baptist Church on Highland Avenue.
