The Nevada Neptunes were in action for a rare midweek meet as they hosted the Lamar Tiger Sharks at Walton Aquatic Center on Wednesday.

The dual meet featured the entire 30-plus members of the Neptunes trying to hold off the Lamar team which had the home team outnumbered drastically.

About 50 swimmers made the drive up U.S. Highway 71 to participate for the Tiger Sharks, and the final score reflected the disparity in numbers.

Lamar won 359-196, with many points coming in races the Neptunes simply did not have anyone to enter.

When the Neptunes and Tiger Sharks did square off in races the competition was good as neither team showed much of an advantage.

Morgan Hold performed particularly well on the boys side, winning two events and finishing second in another.

For the girls, Kristen Badgley was the local star as she won three events.

Hold won the 50-yard freestyle and the 50-yard breaststroke in the (age) 10 and under division. He finished second in the 50-yard butterfly.

Badgley showed her versatility as she won the 13-14 division in the 50-yard backstroke, the 100-yard freestyle and the 50-yard butterfly.

Also winning multiple races for the Neptunes were Diedre Stacy and Katie Kearbey, both on the girls side.

Stacy won the 50-yard freestyle and the 50-yard butterfly in the 15-18 division. Kearbey won the same events in the 10 and under division.

Neptunes coach Daniel Conner was pleased with the way the meet took place.

"I think it went pretty well," Conner said. "It was kind of up and down."

Conner said that some improvement was made on many indivisual times, and that the meet accomplished what it was supposed to.

"Overall it was fun," he said. "Duals are fun."

The meet started at 6 p.m. and did not finish until about 8:30 p.m.

The Neptunes are in the middle of a busy week, as they were in Pittsburg, Kan., last weekend for a meet and they will travel to a meet this weekend at Monett.

In Pittsburg the Neptunes had 26 swimmers and each of the swimmers improved times in their events.

Badgley won three first-place medals last weekend, while finishing second in another event.

Conner Morrison also did well finishing third in the 50-yard breaststroke.
