Nevada boy dies in weekend crash

Rescue workers had to cut away the top of the vehicle to free accident victims after a one-car crash on Sunday. One passenger, 8-year-old Harley Blevins, was rushed to Nevada Regional Medical Center, but was pronounced dead at the hospital. Two other passengers and the drivers suffered injuries and were also transported to area hospitals for treatment. Troopers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol are still investigating the incident. An 8-year-old boy died July 18 after the car he was riding in struck the railroad overpass on Subway Boulevard.

Harley Blevins, Nevada, was riding in a 1991 Chevrolet Beretta driven by his father, Teddy Blevins, 40, Nevada, which was westbound when the accident occurred, at about 5:30 p.m. According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the vehicle traveled off the north side of the road and hit a concrete bridge support.

Shayla Blevins, 13, and Emily Masters, 11, Nevada, were also riding in the vehicle at the time of the accident. Masters was taken to Nevada Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. Blevins and his daughter were taken to NRMC and then transported to Freeman Hospital in Joplin with serious injuries.

Missouri Highway Patrol Troopers J. Wilde and B. Gruben are continuing the investigation into the crash.
