See you at the polls

Tuesday, August 3, 2004

Phil Boyle, candidate for Vernon County Commission, prepares to step away after casting his ballot in today's primary election. Although voter turnout is traditionally low for primary elections, there are several issues drawing voters to the polls today besides party candidate selection. Voters will decide statewide issues, Amendment 1, to allow a casino on the White River at Rockaway Beach; and Amendment 2, constitutionally designating marriage as only between a man and a woman. Locally, certain rural water customers will decide whether to consolidate two water districts, and Nevada R-5 school district patrons will decide whether to increase the school district's property tax levy by 39 cents. By the time this newspaper hits the streets, there'll still be time to vote --polls are open until 7 p.m. See you there!
