Drivers were pushing it to the limit on Saturday, as this week will be Season Championship night at the race track. Every driver wanted to gain a position in the points standings.

Tracy Joles in the Street Stock division won the Feature and was joined in the winner's circle by his dad, Tiny Joles, to get his picture taken. This was the first Feature win for him in his young racing career. What an exciting moment that was for both of them.

Next week drivers will draw for starting positions in the heat races with those finishes determining starting places in the features. Even though the points race will be over, we have more racing scheduled through the month of September and possibly longer depending on the weather.

Coming up on Sept. 4, we will have Pro-4s (a mini-late model) races with a $500 purse for the feature winner. Join us each and every week, at the biggest little racetrack in the country, to catch all the action.

In the Late Model division, heat race winners were Kenny Shaw of Fort Scott, Kan., and Mike Boultinghouse of El Dorado Springs. Shaw got the lead at the start of the Feature, then got sideways, which allowed Foxie Sumner to take the lead. One of the tires got clipped sending it into the track and bringing out a yellow flag. This closed the field behind Sumner for the restart. On this restart Jack Simmons was able to shoot around the outside of Sumner and gain the lead. A yellow flew as Rusty Skaggs got sideways and ended up on one of the tires. This closed the field behind Simmons for the restart. Simmons maintained the lead and captured the win, his sixth of the season.

The Modified heat race winners were Chuck McCartney of Nevada, and Mike Folk of Iola, Kan. McCartney got the lead at the start of the Feature. Mike Folk had problems sending him into the infield and bringing out the yellow flag. This closed the field behind McCartney for the restart. McCartney build up a small lead until Kevin Morrow was able to make his way through the field and chase him down. They raced side by side for several laps until McCartney went high in the turn and then scraped the wall. This allowed Morrow to take the lead. Morrow never looked back as he claimed the win, his fifth of the season.

The Street Stock heat race winners were Matt Rose of Liberal, and Karl Lehmann of Nevada. David Bough got the lead at the start of the Feature. Rose took the inside lane to pass Bough and gain the lead. Jamie Williams spun in front of the entire field causing the cars to take evasive action as the yellow flag flew. This closed the field behind Rose for the restart. Rose developed problems, which sent Bough into the mud and jumping a tire to avoid him. As a result third place Tracy Joles sunk between them to gain the lead. This brought out the yellow flag and Joles was in the lead for the restart. Another yellow flew as Williams and Rose got together. Joles was in the lead for the restart. Jessie Willard closed in on Joles and raced him hard to the checkered flag. Joles was able to retain the lead and collect the win, his very first ever Feature win.

The Factory Stock heat race winners were Cody Elnicki of Pittsburg, Kan., and Michael Rayburn of Liberal. Elnicki got the lead at the start of the Feature. A yellow flew as Rayburn's car went up in a huge cloud of smoke and had to be pushed from the track. This closed the field behind Elnicki for the restart. Elnicki got sideways in the corner allowing Dustin Wyland to gain the lead but Elnicki came right back and claimed the lead. Elnicki and Wyland raced side by side rubbing on each other until Wyland was able to gain the lead. Wyland got sideways taking out a tire and Elnicki as Keith Simmons jumped into the lead and held it to claim the win, his seventh of the season.

In Mini-Stock, the heat race winners were Jerry Wilson of Liberal, and Brandon Leer of Nevada. Floyd Weaver got the lead at the start of the Feature but went high in the corner allowing Joe Beard to gain the lead and build up a distance from the balance of the field. Delbert Agee Jr. chased him down and had just passed for the lead when Wilson and Randall Ashley got together resulting in Ashley turned around in the track. This brought out the yellow flag, which placed Beard back in the lead for the restart. Agee was again able to gain the lead and held it to capture his third win of the season.
