Officers dragged by vehicle during apparent attempt to flee traffic stop
On Sunday, Nevada Police officers Matt Ballenger and Doug Moyer responded to a fight in progress call at AmVets at 9:47 p.m. When the officers arrived on the scene the fight had ended.
Daniel Friar, a 50-year-old El Dorado Springs resident, was identified by witnesses as having been involved in the incident and was apparently attempting to leave the scene in his car.
Ballenger and Moyer attempted to stop Friar, who appeared to be intoxicated, continued to flee. Both officers were dragged by the car and continued to struggle with Friar until the car got stuck in a ditch at the intersection of Jefferson and Wooter.
Friar was arrested on two charges alleging assault on an officer and one count alleging resisting arrest. Detective Kevin Doyle of the Nevada Police Department said that a DWI will likely be forthcoming as well.
Both officers and the suspect received treatment at the Nevada Regional Medical Center for minor injuries and were released the same night.
The charges are being pursued by the Vernon County Prosecutor's office.
