It was the final home tournament of the season for the Nevada Lady Tigers golf team. They were hosting Girard and Uniontown, a couple of Kansas schools, at the Frank E. Peters Municipal Golf Course.

Nevada senior Rachel Prewitt chips during Tuesday's three-team tournament at Frank E. Peters Municipal Golf Course. Prewitt shot a 54 and Nevada had a team score of 204 to beat Uniontown and Girard.

The Lady Tigers defended their home course, shooting a nine-hole total of 204 to defeat second-place Uniontown by 18 strokes Tuesday.

Junior Tabitha Pitts was the individual medalist, carding a 45 to beat junior teammate Emily Benbrook by two shots.

Senior Rachel Prewitt was fourth overall, shooting 54, only one shot behind the third-place golfer.

This came on a day when sophomore Aubrey Jones did not have one of her better tournaments, shooting a still respectable 58.

The good round moved Pitts into a tie with Benbrook for the lowest scoring average for the season. Going into the tournament it was Benbrook and Prewitt who were tied for the lead.

The three of them have continued to pace the Nevada golf team and coach Kelly Gray sees that continuing with the district tournament approaching.

"The top three have really maintained their consistency," Gray said.

And that does not include Jones, who has actually beaten her older teammates on occasion.

"Aubrey could sneak in there and win the whole thing," Gray said.

Junior Eleanor Horst also struggled a little Tuesday, finishing with a 63.

Meanwhile sophomore Elisha Ellis continued to get better in her first year, shooting an exhibition score of 58.

Freshman Vickie Reardon also shot an exhibition score, shooting 72. Kara Foster did not play because of an illness.

Nevada will be playing in Clinton Thursday, where they will see fellow district foes Clinton and Sacred Heart.

The Lady Tigers also played Monday, going to Carl Junction where they faced the host team and Seneca.

Nevada struggled with the fast greens and finished third, with a 222. That was 13 shots behind the winner, Carl Junction, and one behind Seneca.

Prewitt had the lowest score there with a 53.

Nevada finishes the regular season next week with 18-hole tournaments on Tuesday and Wednesday.
