The Cottey Comets have now won two out of their past three volleyball matches, including Saturday's game which they won on family weekend.

Cottey beat Messenger Bible 30-8, 30-16 and 30-14, using the decisive win to get everybody playing time and to work on special plays and situations.

Since many of the girls had family in town for the weekend, Cottey coach Marla Kannady allowed everyone some playing time so each player's family could see them on the court.

Cottey then turned around and defeated Coffeyville Community College, also at home, 30-20, 30-18, 23-30 and 30-20 Monday.

"The ladies played like a team," Kannady said. "We are definitely unstoppable when we play together as a unit."

The win improved Cottey's overall record to 7-9 this season.

The Comets also hosted Allen County Friday and lost, 24-30, 30-24, 30-24 and 30-23.

The three matches were part of Cottey's longest homestand of the season.

The Comets now must hit the road to play Highland Community College Saturday before returning home to take on St. Louis Community College and Florissant in a tri-match Oct. 11.

After the tri-match Cottey only has one home match scheduled for the remainder of the season.

Cottey will close the season with a stretch of four out of five matches being on the road.

The only home match will be when they host Longview Community College on Oct. 19.

Monday's win had Kannady excited that the Comets were finally starting to realize their potential.

"I am proud of the way the ladies brought their focused game face to the floor," Kannady said. "I know we can continue to make great things happen playing like they did (Monday)."
