The Cottey Comets won two volleyball matches over a three-day span, pushing their record over .500 for the first time since the beginning of the season.

The Comets won at Highland, Kan., Saturday, 28-30, 30-23, 31-29 and 30-11.

Then the Comets came home to beat Florissant Valley 30-20, 30-21 and 30-22.

Cottey coach Marla Kannady said the wins were big.

"(Monday's match) was a very crucial match that we needed to win for regional seeding," Kannady said.

After starting the year 3-1, Cottey struggled, only recently pulling out of their funk. The Comets have now won seven of their past nine matches.

Cottey is on the road this week with matches at Springfield and Fort Scott, Kan.

Cottey closes their home schedule when they host Longview next Tuesday.
