Denise Emalyne Burrus, age 16, of Walker, died suddenly as the result of an automobile accident in Bates County on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004.

She was born on July 15, 1988, in Vernon County. She grew up in the Rich Hill and Butler areas and has lived the past three years in Walker. She was a student in her sophomore year at Northeast Vernon County High School. She was active in F.F.A., she served as treasurer; FCCLA home economics club; Library Club; and was on the Varsity Volleyball and Softball teams at Northeast Vernon High School. She was also active in Walker 4-H.

Survivors include her father, Elvy Burrus, of the home in Walker; her mother, Tina Stafford of Butler; two brothers, Elvy Burrus Jr., of Nevada, and Robert Welch, of Jasper; one sister Tonya Cox and her husband, Dallas, of Butler; maternal grandparents, Bob and Betty Stafford, of Butler; and great-grandmother, Lola Bradshaw, of Carthage. She is also survived by her aunts and uncles, Tony Stafford, Bobby Stafford, Oran Burrus, Ella Mae Brooks, Dorothy Busbea and Ralph Roby.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Bonavie Burrus; great-grandmother, Hattie Stafford; her brothers and sisters, Oran Burrus, Travis Burrus and Lisa Burrus; and an aunt, Terri Stafford.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 17, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Eldon Allen officiating. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery, Nevada. Friends may call from now until the hour of service and the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Those who wish may contribute in her memory to a memorial fund for the Future Farmers of America program at Northeast Vernon County High School, Walker, MO, in care of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
