Nevada youth wrestlers place; host tourney Sunday

The Nevada Youth Wrestling Club was busy last weekend as they traveled to Joplin Saturday and Ray-Pec (Raymore-Peculiar) Sunday for a pair of tournaments.

Saturday there were 19 Nevada wrestlers attending the Joplin event, with 10 of them earning medals.

Jacob Johnson and Jake Stevenson both had first-place finishes at the Joplin tournament. Trey Pritchett, Slade Stiles and Sam Ellifrits earned second-place medals. Getting third-place honors were Todd Brier and Chase Brooks. Finishing fourth were True Beisly, Scotty Bough and Jordan Hagerman.

On Sunday there were 16 wrestlers from Nevada in attendance at the Ray-Pec tournament. All of them placed.

Daxtyn Osburn, Tanner Charles, True Beisly, Zach Shepherd, Colby Smith, Scotty Bough and Todd Brier each won their weight class in their age group and brought home first-place medals.

Dylan Hyder was the only wrestler from Nevada to get second place.

Skyler Scotten, Chance Mays, Regar Hardin, Tristan Smith and Chandler Bird each had third-place finishes.

Finishing in fourth place were Zane Shepherd and Taylor Chapman.

Getting sixth place was Colby Charles.

The next match for the young grapplers is the Nevada tournament Sunday. The tournament will be held at Nevada High School beginning at 9 a.m. and going into the afternoon.

The tournament will feature youth wrestlers from all over western Missouri and could also have some from Kansas.

Harrisonville, Adrian, Butler, Brookfield, Webb City, Carl Junction, Neosho, Ray-Pec, Longview, Seneca, Carthage, Platte City, Alba, Central Park Hill, Holden, McDonald County, Joplin and Monett are all scheduled to have wrestlers in Nevada for the tournament.

The youth wrestling program is for wrestlers age 5-14.
