The Nevada Lady Tigers continued their struggles on the road in Southwest Conference play, losing their third straight, 46-43 at Carthage Tuesday.

Nevada found itself down early, a recurring theme this season, only to climb back into the game late and lose a close one at the end.

Carthage took a 7-2 lead in the first quarter and led by as many as 11 points as Nevada struggled to convert field goals.

Even though Nevada went down 22-11 in the second period, they were able to keep Carthage within striking distance and they actually took the lead with 2:36 left in the game when a 3-pointer by Amanda Wilson made it 41-40.

Carthage forward Alana Lyberger scored to reclaim the lead at 42-41 with 1:59 remaining.

Nevada again went on top with a pair of free throws by Afton Baldwin with 1:38 left, but it was the last time Nevada would score.

Carthage got two free throws from Meghan Waggoner to go up 44-43 with 37 seconds on the clock.

Nevada turned the ball over with 13 seconds left, as Hillary Adams was called for a five-second violation while holding the ball on the left wing.

The turnover appeared to end Nevada's hopes, but it turned out to be meaningless when Katrina Westhoff missed the front end of a one-and-one, giving Nevada the ball back.

Nevada drove the length of the floor and got the shot they wanted as Adams pulled up for an 8-foot jumpshot with four seconds left. A shot that Adams usually makes routinely went off the back of the rim and Carthage got the rebound to seal the win.

Two Westhoff free throws with 0:00.3 left on the clock provided the final score.

"We were just not able to overcome the first half," Nevada coach Brent Bartlett said after the game.

The loss marked the second time this season Nevada has lost to a team it had beaten twice before. The same happened with Neosho last week.

Nevada (18-6 overall, 3-4 in the Southwest Conference) closes the regular season Friday at home against Webb City.

Nevada beat the Lady Cardinals earlier this season in Webb City, 68-48. Friday will also be Senior Night.
