Ruth Grace Walker

Ruth Grace Walker, 90, formerly of El Dorado Springs, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at Nevada Regional Medical Center, Nevada, following a short illness. She was born Dec. 21, 1914, in Nevada, to Carl Kirkhart and Arta Frances Mann Kirkhatt. She married John R. Walker on March 23, 1936, in Nevada, and he preceded her in death on July 21, 1980.

Ruth grew up in El Dorado Springs and graduated from El Dorado Springs High School in 1933. Following marriage, she lived in Walker for most of her married life. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Nevada, and a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star in Walker and El Dorado Springs. She worked for Morrison-Post Insurance for nearly 30 years.

Survivors include three daughters, Pat Cherry and her husband, Ken, Hermitage, Mo., Linda Dorsey, Nevada, and Mary Jane Bertoncin and her husband, Jim, Independence, Mo.; nine grandchildren, Mike Cherry, Linda Cherry Martin, Deanna Hacker Kennedy, Rhonda Leonard, Doug Hacker, Kristen Bertoncin, Brenda Bertoncin Sharp, James Bertoncin, and Gary Bertoncin; 10 great-grandchildren, and one sister-in-law, Virginia Prescott, El Dorado Springs; one brother-in-law, David Walker, Pleasant Hill, Mo.; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 12, at the First Baptist Church in Nevada, with Dr. William Cox officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park, Nevada. The family receives friends Friday evening, March 11, 7-8 p.m., at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, and until noon on Saturday.
