Auto accident east of Nevada on State Highway 54 injures two El Dorado Springs men

An automobile accident occurred on highway No. 54 late Sunday afternoon at a point about four miles east of Nevada in which George Palmer and Guy Gillispie, both of El Dorado Springs, were painfully injured and the Gillispie automobile, driven by the owner, was slightly damaged. It seems that Gillispie in attempting to pass another car which was traveling west toward Nevada, either lost control of the car or drove too close to the south edge of the road and the car shot into the ditch. Palmer was thrown clear of the car and suffered painful cuts on the face and Gillispie's right knee was wrenched.

Mrs. Palmer, who was in the car, suffered a nervous shock. The damage to the car consisted of a broken steering wheel, shattered glass and a twisted bumper.

Drive to aid crippled opens in county today

Mrs. Ben F. Weir, of Nevada, who has accepted the position of Easter Seal Sponsor for Vernon County, announced today that 5,500 Easter Seal letters were mailed today to the families and residents of this county.

These letters will bring a message of the need for help to "roll away the stone of doubt, despair, and discouragement" for the crippled children and handicapped adults.

The bright colored sheets of Easter Seals in the letters are a symbol of hope for the handicapped. The Easter Seal for 1955 displays the traditional white lily, symbol of The Society, on a pink background.

A bright blue ribbon imposed on the lily says, "Help A Crippled Child." Below the ribbon are the words, Easter Seals.
