Norman Parks, 71, Sheldon, died Saturday, May 21, 2005, at National Healthcare in Joplin.

He was born March 3, 1934, in St. Louis the son of Marvin Van and Dorithy M. Smith Parks.

He was married to Nadine McCollum on Sept. 21, 1957, in Hernando, Miss., and she preceded him in death in 1997.

He served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He retired from the U.S. Army as a Chief Warrant Officer after more than 27 years of service. He worked as a hospital engineer for the state of Missouri at Cape Girardeau, Nevada, and Bellontaine.

Survivors include two sons, Maurice Summers, of High Ridge, Mo., and Paul L. Parks, of Saint Genevieve, Mo.; one daughter, Linda K. Hendrix, of Moundville; and one brother, David L. Parks, of Wentzville, Mo. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside services with full military honors will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, at Fort Scott National Cemetery with C.K. Warden officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, at Evergreen Memorial Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Army Relief Fund in care of Evergreen Memorial Chapel, P.O.
