The Cottey College

Commencement marks banner year of growing institution

The annual grand concert at Cottey College was given last night by the faculty. Notwithstanding the inclement weather a very large and appreciative audience was present. The program was a classical music and literary one and it was rendered superbly.

The college faculty is one of the strongest in the West, each member being a leader in their respective work.

This morning the Rev. Dr. Murry of St. Louis delivered the annual address which was a master piece of oratory and logic and contained many practical truths. This address closed the commencement exercises and the college term now ended is the banner year of this splendid and growing institution.

Road grader no match for

speeding auto

That an 8,000 pound grader is no match for a touring model automobile going at a speed of 60 miles an hour was demonstrated Wednesday at the road crossing north of Milo.

The automobile, a Wyllis-Knight, bearing a Minnesota state license and driven by a stranger, crashed squarely into Center township's big road grader, which was en route to Drywood township and the big grader was sent skidding up the highway for a distance of 75 and was damaged more than the automobile which struck it.

One naturally would have thought the automobile would have been wrecked but it was not -- in fact only one running board and the bumper were bent.
