Sometime during the night of June 12, Edward McBee, also known as Michael Walters and Edward Daniels, 44, Nevada escaped from the Vernon County Jail by kicking out a window that had been installed to let sunlight in. McBee was in jail for fraudulent use of a credit device, stealing, forging instruments and drug-related charges.

McBee also faces pending charges in Jackson and Camden counties and the state of Arkansas.

McBee is a 44-year-old white male, 5 foot 11 inches weighing 165 pounds. He has red hair, blue eyes and a fair complexion.

Vernon County Sheriff Ron Peckman said he had expressed concern about the window that McBee escaped through but that he had been told it was needed to provide light to the area. "I wanted to board that window up but I was told I couldn't," Peckman said.

Peckman said deputies are investigating tips relating to the escape.

A Nevada woman with possible connections to the escape is in custody; McBee is still at large.
