Griffons fall in Joplin

The Nevada Griffons dropped their second straight Tuesday as they lost to the Southwest Slashers in Joplin.

The Griffons could not carry the momentum of their recent Kansas road trip into the final game of a six-game stanza away from home.

The Southwest Slashers used many stellar defensive plays from their infield to take away possible Griffon hits as they won 4-2.

It was the eighth time this season that the Griffons and Slashers have met on the diamond. The Griffons still hold the series lead 5-3. However, the first game between the teams did not count toward the league standings so Nevada holds a slim 4-3 edge in Jayhawk League games against the Slashers.

The two teams will hook up one more time this season when Nevada makes a return trip to Joplin Thursday.

The Griffons will be at home tonight as they host another Jayhawk League team, the Wichita Twins.

The two teams will play a doubleheader at Lyons Stadium with the first game scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
