Detroit man killed in crash near El Dorado Springs

A one-car accident early this morning at Cedar Springs, 13 miles east of El Dorado Springs on Highway 54, resulted in the death of a 29-year-old Detroit man.

At 1 a.m., the car, a convertible, and a house trailer were being driven east on U.S. Highway 54 by Charles William Neilan, 18. His passengers were his brother, Ronald Leo Neilan, 29, in the rear seat, and Jerry Green, Bellflower, Calif.

According to his statement to Sgt. Tom Loy of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Charles Neilan said that he felt his car start to weave and applied the trailer brakes but was unable to bring the car under control. It careened to the north side of the highway and overturned, pinning Ronald Neilan between the steering wheel and a stump at the edge of the highway.
