Man arrested for being drunk

Officers Wilson and John T. Lucas arrested a stranger on East Cherry street, and after searching their man thought they had run up against a "Scotty" or a John D. Rockefeller in disguise. The stranger wore a duck coat and very plain trousers but when they searched the clothing were surprised to find $269. The officers locked the stranger up and then secured a bushel basket to carry the money to Chief of Police Janes. The stranger appeared before Police Judge Webb this morning and pleaded guilty to the charge of being intoxicated and paid a fine of $25 and costs. The remainder of his money was returned and the stranger proceeded on his way, leaving the city on an afternoon train. He gave his name as William Barker and stated he was from North Dakota.
