Thelma Grace Story Boyd

Thelma Grace Story Boyd, 95, Nevada, Mo., died Jan. 1, 2006, at Joe Clark Residential Care Home, Nevada, following a short illness. She was born Jan. 21, 1910, in Nevada, to John Gilbert Willson and Ada Mae Langford Willson. She married Condon Lee Story on Feb. 4, 1928, in Nevada, and he preceded her in death on March 4, 1976. She later married Curtis Boyd on March 30, 1981. They lived in Fort Scott, Kan., until his death in 2000.

Mrs. Boyd was born and reared in Vernon County. She went to the Stanton School in rural Vernon County east of Nevada. She worked for Nevada City Hospital and later Nevada State Hospital until her retirement. Thelma was a member of the First Baptist Church. She was a volunteer at the Senior Center in Fort Scott, for several years and was an avid participant in the senior citizen dances in the surrounding areas. She has lived in Joe Clark Residential Care Home since her return to Nevada in 2001.

Survivors include one son, Eugene Story and his wife, Karen, Nevada; three grandchildren, Kerry Story, Carthage, Mo., Tim Dade, Walker, Mo., David Dade, Springeield, Mo., and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Rick Willson,and Roy Willson, and one sister, Gladys Johnson.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. William Cox and Hubert Fox officiating. Interment followed in Newton Burial Park.
