Vaughan indicted
JEFFERSON CITY -- The special grand jury called by Judge Martin to investigate the attempted escape of convicts at the penitentiary Nov. 24, when Allison and Clay, guards were killed, returned indictments yesterday against Ryan Vaughn and Raymonds, convicts, charging them with murder in the first degree for killing these officers.
The prisoners were brought from the penitentiary into court and the indictments read to them. They had no counsel and Judge Martin appointed Edwin Silver and F.K. King to defend them.
They were not asked to plead to the indictment until they had conferred with their attorneys.
It is probable that they will be brought into court today and their pleas of not guilty entered. Judge Martin stated last night that he expected to try these cases in February.

Remodeled structure to house Goodrich store
Workmen have begun remodeling the building on the west side of the Square recently vacated by the Goodyear store. A new facade is being constructed and interior remodeling is planned.
The structure, which is owned by Mrs. W.R. Braham, Nevada, is scheduled to be ready for occupancy by a Goodrich Service Store by Feb. 1.
The Goodyear firm has moved into newly remodeled quarters on North Main Street formerly occupied by the Kroger grocery store.
