John Fonberg's suffering over
John Fonberg, one of Vernon County's oldest residents and very best men died this morning at his home on west Allison Street. For some time Mr. Fonberg has been seriously ill with diabetes and gangrene having set up in his right limb, amputation was resorted to with hope of saving the life of the good citizen, but even this failed and death relieved his sufferings.
John Fonberg was 69 and had for many years been a resident of Vernon County. Until a few years ago, he had resided near Bronaugh. Fonberg was an honest, upright man, who was highly respected by his neighbors and friends, to whom his death is a source of sorrow.

Three black students try to enter school
WALNUT RIDGE, Ark., -- Three black children tried to enroll at the white elementary school today, the second such attempted in Arkansas this week.
The black children, accompanied by three adults, were turned away by A.W. Rainwater, superintendent of schools in the northeast Arkansas town.
Twenty-seven black children tried to enroll in white schools at Little Rock, Monday. They applied at all levels of the school system. They, toom were turned away.
Mrs. L.C. Bates, president of the Arkansas chapter of the National Association of the Advancement of Colored People, said after the Little Rock attempt that an appeal to the courts would be the next step.
