He is a man of ability and was at one time mayor of Independence, Iowa, before becoming a resident of this city. The 20th senatorial district is composed of Dade, Greene, Barton and Vernon counties. It has been more than 20 years since Vernon County has been complimented with the State Senatorship

C.W. Bohrn victim in tragedy

Charley W. Bohrn, 58, Nevada workman, died this afternoon at the Nevada Hospital as doctors worked feverishly to save his life after Bohrn was struck by a beam when the wall of the Tolle building at the corner of Walnut and Washington streets, fell on him.

Mr. Bohrn sustained a badly crushed skull, broken neck, broken back, broken left arm, severe internal head injuries and other injuries. Doctors held little hope for his recovery from the outset due to the extent of his injuries.

According to Oscar Bronson, Milo, who was working with Mr. Bohrn in raising the building, which is owned by Clay Tolle, Mr. Tolle had sent Bronson to the Walnut, Washington street intersection to keep traffic and pedestrians from the area and sent Mr. Bohrn to the south end of the building to do the same, while workers attempted to pull the wall down toward the interior of the building.

Police, who were assigned to direct traffic during the operation, said a truck was on Walnut Street and started to pull north section of the building inward to the west. When it gave way to the south section of the wall also gave way and buckled outward with a beam striking Bohrn on the head.
