The 'Superman' of books

Sunday, February 12, 2006
Nevada R-5 Superintendent Dr. Ted Davis, right, hands a dictionary to a third grade student Friday afternoon at Truman Elementary.

Nevada, Mo. -- Third graders in Vernon County are receiving a special book -- a tool to help them navigate all of the other books they'll encounter throughout life. It's a book that can help them use language better. It's a tool of understanding and knowledge.

The books are dictionaries, and each one has a personal sticker bearing the recipient's name.

Members of the Nevada Rotary Club, including R-5 Superintendent Dr. Ted Davis, who is himself a Rotarian, handed out the dictionaries to Nevada students on Friday.

Two other Rotarians, local chiropractor Dr. Jason Meisenheimer, and Associate Circuit Judge Jerry McBeth helped distribute the books, which Davis told students is "the Superman of books."

Meisenheimer and McBeth agreed that doling out the dictionaries is both rewarding and fun.
